A Native to New Mexico, Jolonzo Guy-Goldtooth is of Dine’ Tribal decent from the Four Corners region. He is the creative director of the design line JG-Indie, a Native American Urban collection. Growing up in an urban setting, his line reflects the American Indian Urban Lifestyle. A self taught designer, he pays ode to the strong Dine’ women in his life, whom have guided him in the positive direction. They have influenced him to develop and achieve his dreams of personal creativity. Jolonzo has strong aspirations to continue developing his collection into the mainstream and encourages other striving designers to do the same.

Concrete Indians Series
Anishinaabe photographer Nadya Kwandibens takes a closer look at the entity of the urban Indigenous artist with her photo series entitled “Concrete Indians”.
While sitting on her couch in Toronto, Nadya Kwandibens says she had a revelation. Thinking about Indigenous artists in this contemporary urban setting, she asked herself “What rests at the core of it all and how does one maintain their identity as a cultural Native person in the city?”
Sho Sho is a Kaska Dene designer has become a favourite and has shown all across Canada and the USA and her most prominent show to date was at New York Couture Fashion Week. Through her fashion shows, you can see a transition of where her artistry is going. From the Pendleton hoodies she became known for, she is now transitioning into more couture pieces.
Esquiro is connecting her latest work with her roots, her nation is in a small town in the Yukon, and she takes a lot of influence from the traditions of Ross River. Her latest collection shows the immense skills she has as an artist, it also shows a new direction in craftsmanship with traditional elements such as embroidery, moose hair tufting and uses of various furs and fish skins. Esquiro maintains that the Yukon always plays a part in her inspiration.
I had the opportunity to be on CTV National News speaking about the upcoming elections & what matters to me! Bridging the digital divide and inclusion in the digital economy.
Indigenous Peoples are less likely to be employed than non-Indigenous Canadians in the technology and innovation sectors.
As more businesses adopt digital technology, the demand for strong digital skills will continue to grow. This increasing demand highlights the importance of engaging all available talent in the digital economy to mitigate the impact of talent shortages and economic development. Despite being one of the fastest-growing populations in Canada, Indigenous peoples remain significantly underrepresented within Canada’s labour force and are often overlooked, and not seen as a potential solution to filling the existing labour gaps.
Indigenous peoples have a lot to offer Canada’s digital economy. Currently comprising approximately 4% of Canada’s total population, the long-term economic benefits of increasing labour force participation among Indigenous peoples would translate into a greater supply of skilled talent for the technology sector & generate an additional $335 billion in real economic activity.
